It features selections from all his major shows, including the world premiere recording of "Farewell," from the 1971 revival of A Funny Thing Happened...Forum, and "I'm in Love with a Boy," penned when he was 16 years old. In December of 2005, some of San Francisco’s most talented artists came together to pay homage to one of musical theatre’s greatest composer/lyricists. The concert was a smashing sold-out success and featured one great Sondheim song after another. All of Mr. Sondheim’s major shows are represented, along with his most recent, Bounce, and the new version of The Frogs. Also included is the world premiere recording of “Farewell,” which was written for the 1971 revival of A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. The cast features James Brewer, Amy Dondy, Kelly Ground, Hannah Rose Kornfeld, Kim Larsen, Tom Orr, Shay Oglesby-Smith, Steve Rhyne and Stephanie Rhoads, as well as special guests Lisa Vroman, Guy Haines and Judy Butterfield. A-J History A-J Productions, LLC, was formed in 2005 by Amy Dondy and James Brewer. Its first production was SIMPLY SONDHEIM – A 75th Birthday Salute, San Francisco’s 2005 concert tribute to Stephen Sondheim, followed by a collector’s edition 2-CD live recording of the event. A-J Productions continues to produce top-flight live entertainment and recordings. James Brewer (Producing Director) - Beginning his professional career as a singer and dancer at Disneyland and on TV, Jim segued into songwriting. He had toured nationally and internationally, performed in Las Vegas and recorded for numerous record labels when he was hired by "Doonesbury" cartoonist Garry Trudeau as "Jimmy Thudpucker" to co-write the music and lyrics and provide the character's voice for an animated film based on the comic strip. That led to a tie-in single for Warner Bros. and an album for RCA, with the film receiving an Academy Award nomination and the "Special Jury Prize" at the Cannes Film Festival. A licensed broadcaster who has worked as a news announcer, radio DJ and voice-over artist, Jim trained as an actor at HB Studio in New York. Some memorable roles include the title role in Chekov's Uncle Vanya; Billy in Carousel; Woody in Woody Guthrie’s American Song and Arles Struvie, Vera Carp, et al in Greater Tuna. Amy Dondy (Managing Director) - Since her acclaimed debut at the Plush Room, Amy Dondy has remained an important mainstay of the music and theatre scene in the Bay Area. Rightfully dubbed by the media as "a singing actress of startling originality," and "the Maria Callas of cabaret," the San Francisco based performer has appeared in both the New York and West Coast Cabaret Conventions. Competing in the 1997 San Francisco Concerto Orchestra's Bay Area Vocal Arts Competition, she won First Prize in both the "Cabaret" and "Musical Theatre" categories and went on the win the Grand Prize in the "Popular Competition." A nightclub performer on both coasts, Amy starred for 2 years in the long-running Morris Bobrow show Party of One, performing in the Bay Area and on tour. She is excited to be Jim Brewer’s partner in life.
